My prayers are with you.
Teachers in the two-teacher San Mateo school. Phil and I loved teaching you during your first school years. You were all was very special to us.
I wanted to share one memory from the scout's’ journey along the Appalachian Trail in 1967. When the troop were almost to the top of Swim Bald, they decided to rest. Roger sat on top of a yellow jackets’ nest and the angry jackets swarmed all over him and the troop. Wanting to get away from the bees, Roger almost jumped off the cliff side of the mountain, but “his quick-thinking father, Mr. Niles, grabbed him and pulled him back on the trail.” Roger was stung 15 times, his father 4 times and Wayne Coggins 8 times. My son Philip, who recorded their adventures on the hike, was only stung once.
My son always said Bob saved Roger’s life that day.
