George Hanks

George Hanks, 76, of Interlachen, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. He was a native of Melrose and had spent most of his life in Putnam County. George was a 1961 graduate of Melrose High School. He had retired from Goodyear Tire on Reid St. in Palatka and had worked as a manager for Goodyear in Orlando and Gainesville. Following retirement he owned and operated G & G Rodent and Reptile Services. He was a member of Dunham Woods Baptist Church in Hollister. George was an avid FSU fan who also enjoyed fishing, racing and most of all spending time with his family and church family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Agnes Irene Buell Hanks; a son, Joe Hanks; a granddaughter, Chastity Hanks and a great grandson, Dylan Hanks Crumpton.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law; Chris Hanks, Sr. and wife, Chrystal of Union County and Greg and Christa Hanks of Hollister; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Carolyn C. Hanks of Bradford County; a sister, Agnes Yvonne Johnson of Gulf Port; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Dunham Woods Baptist Church with Pastors Dale Rogers and L. D. Osteen officiating. In keeping with George’s wishes, casual dress with favorite football clothing is requested. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
