Hernan “Nanch” Essman Enriquez, 71, of Satsuma passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka.

Hernan was born in Rio Bueno, Chile and had lived in the Palatka area for the last 33 years after returning from Leland, NC. As a foreign exchange student from Chile, he graduated from Palatka High School in 1965. He then returned to Chile, but came back to the U.S. in 1967, met the love of his life, and attended St. Johns River Junior College. He served honorably in the United States Army. He had worked many years in Furniture Manufacturing, including nine years as a foreman for Southern, Inc. in Wilmington, NC, a subcontractor for Broyhill Furniture, and 19 years as a foreman for Florida Furniture in Palatka, Florida. Before retiring, he worked in St. Augustine for Schoenhut Piano Company, who manufactured children’s pianos, and for Carlisle, who manufactured wiring harnesses for Boeing Aircraft.

Hernan liked people and never met a stranger. He was a very giving person. He enjoyed nature, wildlife, birds and airplanes. He liked spending time at Kay Larkin and Deland airports. His hobbies included fishing, tennis, pickleball, and photography and he had many “Pictures of the Day” published in the Palatka Daily News. He enjoyed playing pickleball with his pickleball family. Hernan had a good sense of humor and enjoyed telling stores. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hernan Dario Augusto Enriquez and Maria Olivia Essman; his in-laws, William Curtis and Jessie Mae Holley.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Enriquez of Satsuma; a son, Joseph Christopher Enriquez and wife, Michelle of Tucson, AZ; a daughter, Sophia Olivia Gribbin and husband, Joseph of Ocala; a sister, Maria Olivia Enriquez of Santiago, Chile; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

A private Family Gathering and Celebration of Life was held Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka.
