RONALD A. MARSHALL

Ronald A. Marshall, 81 of Melrose, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019 at Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka following a brief illness.

Ronald was born in East Chicago, Indiana and was a resident of Melrose. He had been a resident of Melrose for the past 13 years, coming from Rio Rancho, NM. Ron enlisted in the Navy right out of high school and served two years plus eight stints in the Reserves. He later worked with the Michigan State Police in the 1960s. He moved to Florida in the late 1960ís and worked with Roy Disney to establish a communications network for the building of Walt Disney World in Orlando. The Navy taught him the world of radio and he worked as an amateur ham radio operator. Radio and broadcast engineering were his first love. His ham radio call sign, W4PKO, is now retired. He was Chief Engineer for many radio and TV stations, including WMMB in Melbourne, for most of his adult life, retiring in 2001. One of the high points of his career in broadcasting was getting to meet and spend time with the singer, Marty Robbins. In recent years he worked as a customer service agent taking orders for forms for the I.R.S. until this past May when his health no longer allowed him to continue working. He enjoyed ham radio, gardening, radio broadcasting, and old style country music. He was a Christian.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Eliza Suzette Jewell Kallok Marshall; a son, Kevin Marshall who passed away in 2006; a daughter, Debora Sypian who passed away in 2012; and a brother, David Marshall. His fatherís real first name was J. but many people called him James or Huck. His mother was the first American born to Slovak immigrants. He was the last of his familyís generation.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Vanessa Marshall of Melrose; a son, Sean Marshall of Orlando; a daughter, Jennifer Marshall (Matthew Buckley) of Jacksonville; two twin step-sons, Charlie Prouse and Roger Prouse, Jr. both of Orlando; two step-daughters, Domini Hunter (Timothy Hunter) of Melrose and Jennifer Gonzalez (Amis Gonzalez) of Sanford; eight grandchildren, Nathan Sypian, Matthew Sypian, Jared Sypian, Abram Sypian, Bethia Sypian, Eliza Sypian, Dyllan Allen Marshall who was more like a son, and Avery Buckley; five great grandchildren, Landon Sypian, Jameson Sypian, James Marshall, Sonny Sypian and Grace Sypian; and many cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 28th at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka. The family will begin receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
