DEAN COOLEY

Walter Dean Cooley, 89, of Salt Springs, passed away Monday, March 16, 2020 at Solaris Healthcare in Palatka following an extended illness.

Mr. Cooley was born in McIntosh and had lived in Salt Springs for most of his life, coming from Ervin. He was a member of Salt Springs Baptist Church in Salt Springs. He had been a member of the American Legion Post 128 in Sterling, KS, the VFW in Lyons, KS, and was a Mason, Scottish Rite, and a Shriner. He and his wife, Minnie, helped to raise several children. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing, going to the VFW and American Legion, and church groups. He loved to fish.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Florence Cooley; three brothers, David Nathaniel Cooley, George Luther Cooley, and Carlton Lee Cooley; four sisters, Thelma Lott, Agnes Josephine Wilkinson, Pauline Odessa Markham, and Nettie Udell Johns.

Surviving is his wife of 74 years, Minnie Cooley of Salt Springs.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 25th at Salt Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Salt Springs with Eric Gervais officiating. Military honors to be bestowed by the U.S. Army.
