Joseph Leonard Myers, 88, of Palatka, formerly of Crescent City, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020 at home surrounded by family following a brief illness.

Leonard was born in Crescent City to Mary Belle McGrady and Harry Myers. Most of his adult life was spent in this vicinity.

He served four years in the Navy during the Korean conflict. He was aboard the U.S.S. Chemung, an oil tanker, refueling the 7th fleet off the coast of Korea. He had worked as a Police Officer in Crescent City and as a Field Manager for Indian River Fruit Company in Ft. Pierce.

Leonard had lived the last nine years in the Palatka area, coming from Crescent City. In the past, he had enjoyed the old swimming hole, gator hunting, overseeing the orange groves, the pulp mill, hunting, camping out, and being an old Florida Cracker. He was raised by his grandmother in the old-time ways and every Sunday was a church day. He always knew this for REAL and never forgot his religion. He has gone to see his grandma now, and happily.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Eric Myers.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Priscilla Bennett of Palatka and their children, Alita Hogg (Sam) of Fruitland, Wendell Myers of Gainesville, Joy Foley (Bill) of Welaka, Christine Fallin of Albany, GA, and Marla Myers of Palatka; a sister, Thelma Yakalovich of Maine; one he helped raise in Deland, Sharon Ward; his second wife, Linda Williams and their child, Jeannie Hazellief both of Ft. Pierce; 23 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
