DON ROBINSON
Donnel “Don” Robinson, 79, of Palatka went to be with the Lord Saturday, August 22, 2020 at his residence following a sudden illness.
Don was born in Christmas, FL and, coming from Christmas, had been a resident of Putnam County for the past 25 years, first living in Grandin and for the past 23 years in Palatka. He served honorably in the United States Army. In his earlier years he had worked at a fish cannery in Alaska. He retired from SeaRay in Palm Coast after 15 years of service where he worked as a Master Carpenter building custom cabinets for ships and boats. His knowledge and excellence in his work earned him the nickname “Dr. Don” from his co-workers and management. Also he was awarded numerous plaques for all the special work related things he did at SeaRay. Don was literally a “jack of all trades” who did quality work and could do just about anything including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, upholstery, window and door installation, and working with fiberglass. He blessed his family, neighbors and friends, including this funeral home, with his handy work. He was a Christian man who was always helping others, never met a stranger who loved the Lord and put his faith into action. He made a popular special datil pepper sauce which he bottled under the name of “Don’s Datil Pepper Sauce”. He enjoyed working in his workshop, fishing, and boating. He had a special dog, “Little Man”.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Elton Daniel and Bonnie Belle Robinson; a daughter, Trina Chaney Hammond; his mother-in-law, Violet Sapp; a sister, Thelma Robinson; and a brother, Earl Robinson.
Surviving are his loving wife of 23 years, Janice Robinson; two sons, Charles Chaney (Gerlinde) and Randy Chaney (Tammy); two daughters, Melissa Ward (Clay) and RenŽ Robinson Rittiner; a step-daughter, Tina Reddington; a brother, Milton Robinson (Mary); several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 27th at New Beginning Baptist Fellowship with Pastor Rick McClure and Chaplain Ricky Bybee officiating. The U.S. Army will bestow military honors. In honor and celebration of Don’s life a Video Tribute will be shown. The family will begin receiving friends one hour prior to the start of the service.
Memorial gifts may be sent to New Beginning Baptist Fellowship (for the building fund), P.O. Box 1524, Palatka, FL 32178. Friends may sign the online register at www.themastersfuneralhomes.com.
Masters Funeral Home of Palatka is in charge of the arrangements.
