Marvin Hozee, Jr., 78, of Hollister passed away at his residence Tuesday, January 8, 2019 following an extended illness.

Marvin had lived in Hollister for the past 14 years coming from his Hudsonville, MI where he was born. He retired as a concrete technician in the construction industry and had served as a volunteer lieutenant fireman in the Georgetown Township in Michigan where he was recognized as “Volunteer of the Year” out of 600+ volunteer firefighters in 1970, the year he saved his brother’s life.

He served as a deacon at Francis Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and worked in the nursery. He enjoyed camping, traveling, tinkering, and visiting family. He also performed a lot of handyman work for others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Grace Hoezee; a son, Larry Allen Hoezee; a baby daughter; and a sister, Harriett Van Spronsen.

Surviving are his wife, Nola Hoezee of Hollister; two sons and spouses, Glenn (Gina) Hoezee of Howard City, MI and Kevin (Jackie) Hoezee of Lakeview, MI; a daughter and spouse, Laurie (Randy) Schuitema of Jenson, MI; two brothers and spouses, Jim (Joyce) Hoezee of Byron Center, MI and Gary (Donna) Hoezee of Jenson, MI, two sisters and spouses, Joyce (Jerry) Huyser of Cutlerville, MI and Julie (Steve) Hoezee of Englewood, FL; a brother-in-law, John Van Spronsen; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two step-sons and spouse, Billy (Cindi) Arnold of Palatka, Carl Arnold of Bardin; a step-daughter and spouse, Shannon (Andrew) Rich of Lisbon Falls, ME; six step-grandchildren; and three step-great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 13th at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 14th at Francis Baptist Church with Pastor Jason Sharp officiating, assisted by Pastor Buddy Lynch and Pastor Dale Rogers. Interment will follow in Hollister Sweetwater Cemetery.
