L.H. “Jerry” Jarrell, Jr., 88 of Palatka passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at the Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka following a brief illness.

He was a native Port Tampa, FL and had been a resident of Palatka for the past 59 years, coming from St. Augustine. He served in the Florida National Guard before serving in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1984 he retired from Bell South after 36 years of service in the Palatka area. He was an avid fisherman. His grandchildren were very special to him. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Larence Sr. and Merle Jarrell; and one daughter, Sharon Jarrell.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mary Jarrell of Palatka; two daughters and son-in-law, Deborah Perez of Richmond, VA and Cynthia and Danny Layman of Satsuma; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kathy Jarrell of Jacksonville; one brother, George Jarrell of Virginia; two sisters, Mary Round of Georgia and Vera Kolpin of Tampa; four grandchildren, Ralph Perez of Miami, FL, Clinton Sledge of Interlachen, and Sean and Maxwell Jarrell of Jacksonville; and two great grandchildren, Danni and Dillon Sledge of Interlachen.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 17th at the Palatka Memorial Gardens with the U.S. Navy bestowing military honors. Bro. Gene Maddox, Pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Palatka will officiate.
