Doris Shedd Daniels

Doris Shedd Daniels, 92, of Palatka, went to be with her Heavenly Father and Heavenly Family, Saturday, March 13, 2021. She passed away quietly at Isle Health and Rehab Center in Fleming Island after an extended illness of dementia. Doris and her family were blessed with a full and happy life with each other. Doris was born in Clay County to the late Warren Shedd and Pearl Shedd Stratton. She was raised in Bardin where she attended school and was a 1948 graduate of the Mellon High School in Palatka. In September of 1948, Doris married her husband, Eugene J. (Judge) Daniels, a young barber in Palatka. They soon moved to Green Cove Springs, where barbers were needed due to all the ships docked along the river with sailors onboard. There were hundreds of sailors who were standing in long lines waiting for haircuts. This is where their two children, Jack and Gail, were born (the closest hospital was St. Augustine). Soon most of the sailors went home. A career change was needed for her husband. He began working for Merita Bread Company in Jacksonville. They lived there almost 10 years. In 1961, a job with Merita Bread Company became available in Palatka which Judge accepted to be close to family and continued to work for Merita for a total of 35 years. Judge said that was the best decision he made in his life to get himself, his wife and family close to family again.

Doris worked in Wards Grocery Store on Moseley Ave. in Palatka for Mr. and Mrs. Ward until they sold their store. She then worked at Moseley Elementary School until her children were in Jr. High School. She then worked at One Hour Martinizing Cleaners on Lemon Street downtown for Claude Creech. The cleaners was located on the exact same corner as Ronnie Clark’s office. Doris and Judge loved their vacations every summer for twenty years going to Fan Fair in Nashville, TN, Branson, MO, Pigeon Forge, TN and trips to Quincy and Fowler, IL to visit his sister, Eunice and all of their family. Doris and Judge were so exited to share their stories and many pictures they took from every trip. In 2003 they discovered the Orange Blossom Opry, near the Villages, where they went every Thursday, Friday and Saturday to see the Country Stars. Doris continued to go the Opry with her family after Judge passed in 2008. This included a very special family member, Gini Lawton, who recently passed on Jan. 26, 2021. She was the mother of Ronald Deknoblough. Gini loved going to Orange Blossom Opry as much as Doris. Doris loved all of her family and friends very deeply and enjoyed and cherished her time spent with them. She always had a soft, sweet voice, a big beautiful smile, a heart of gold and was always happy. Doris was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved her Lord and Savior and enjoyed reading the Bible and her Ensign Church magazines. She enjoyed the many friends she made along the way.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Eugene J. “Judge” Daniels; step-mother, Edith Shedd; step-father, Allan Stratton; son-in-law, Harris Register; brothers, John Shedd (Dot), Gerald Shedd, Sr. (Gaynell), Doyle Shedd (Sylvia); nephews, Jerry Shedd, Jr., Steven Shedd; great nephew, Jonathan Daniels.
