James "Jimmy" A. Willis

James A. “Jimmy” Willis, 81, of Bostwick passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka following a brief illness.
Jimmy was born in Miami on November 21, 1939 but grew up in Bostwick where he returned after retiring from active military service. He attended Palatka Senior High School and then joined the US Marine Corps where he served for 20 years, retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant (E-7). Following his retirement from active military service, he served 14 years as a detention officer with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. He loved fishing on the St. Johns River and was an active outdoorsman. He was a member of the Bostwick Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Roney Willis and Madelyne Perry; a son, Jimmy Joe Willis; and two sisters, Loretta Osteen and Juanita Wilkinson.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Lola Messer Willis; two sons, Johnny (Lorraine) Willis and Coy (Willa) Willis; a daughter, Lisa (Roger) Carman; 8 grandchildren, Alan Janda, Ryan Janda, Kyle (Grace) Janda, Michael Willis, Danielle (Matt) Wilkins, John (Shawndra) Willis, Rayne Willis, and Zara Willis; 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening, May 28 at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 29 at the funeral home with Pastor David Eddins officiating. Burial will follow in Bostwick Cemetery.
